Ahhh… Summer. I definitely love that feeling only summer brings of no commitment and freedom. After a stressful year of several hours of homework a night, and huge projects, it is suck a relief to be able to stay up late again, without cramming for Monday’s test, or gluing on pictures to a poster board. Of course, with that happiness comes the loneliness that again only summer can bring. The loneliness that leads one to– on days where no friends are available– spend time with younger siblings, or spend endless hours reading MLIA (mylifeisaverage.com) posts. I luckily have been able to mainly avoid these severe cases of boredom and loneliness, due mostly to my recent babysitting job; I feel that I will have to endure it soon enough, for today is my last day of babysitting for a while. I therefore have devised a list of things that I will do when I am in need of activities:
- learn to write with my right hand (I’m a lefty)
- perfect my handwriting (on my left hand though XD)
- work on “Blue” (if you don’t know what that is, then you should read a few more of my blog posts)
- become so incredibly good at piano that I can stop going to my lessons (that’s not going to happen)
- learn HTML, and all that good website building stuff (oh so nerdy)
- increase my stamina when running, so that I can join the cross country team and be able to get a free credit of PE (that’s not going to happen either)
- unlock everything on Mario Kart (I hope I spelled that right)
- learn to sing (for theater)
- find out what my summer assignments are (AP…ahhh!) and actually complete them before September
That’s about it, if I think of anymore, I will add them in future posts.
I am going to talk about something a little more serious now, that just happened yesterday, and is something that I have been thinking about a lot; Michael Jackson’s death. It was surprising, to say the least, that he died at such a young age. Until this past year, being that he was before my time, I knew him mainly for the scandals that have happened over the years. This year however, I have delved into a greater appreciation for music, not just the current songs they play on hit radio stations, but good, timeless music that everyone can appreciate. That is where I started to get to know Michael Jackson for his great contribution to music. A few months ago, my advanced drama class started working on a tribute to Michael Jackson including songs like Beat It, Billie Jean, and of course, Thriller. We went on to perform the tribute about a week before school got out, and our final showcase as the finale. I now find it sort of ironic how we created and preformed the tribute so close to his death, but overpowering the irony is the great sense of happiness I feel that I will remember Michael Jackson not for the many scandals he was involved in, but for the wonderful music he created, and the opportunity I was given to participate in a tribute to the Kind of Pop.
Luv ya,
Aubrey Moore
